"Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown (book review)
Hello, book dragons! ♛
In today's episode of "What has Melani read at the school breaks?" we can see the very-famous, but not talked about enough, book written by Dan Brown. And by that I mean "Angels and Demons". So now I'm about to rant to you for a couple of paragraphs about it and then I'm going to *hopefully* leave you with the feeling that you for sure need to put it in your TBR or to EVEN read it soon *wink-wink*
"Angels and Demons" is a 2000 bestselling mystery-thriller novel written by american author Dan Brown and published by Pocket Books and then by Corgi Books. The novel introduces the character Robert Langdon, who recurs as the protagonist of Brown's subsequent novels. It shares many stylistic literary elements with its sequels, such as conspiracies of secret societies, a single-day time frame, and the Catcholic Church. Acient history, architecture, and symbology are also heavily referenced throughout the book. A film adaptation was released on May 15, 2009.
The characters were !SPOT!ON! I feel in love with our protagonist and with the main female. And I deeply hated the antagonists. And I felt so sad for the victims. And I had this mixed feelings about some of the other people. Because, yes, I felt like they were actual people, alive and breathing. But sadly they weren't. The characters were so well-written that I wanted more and more of their thoughts and I wanted to hear every one of their conversations. I give my admirations to Brown for the vivid characters with the fully human-like actions, which made actual sense all of the time.
The scenario was really interesting and consuming. I read throughout classes and while waiting for the doctor or any other appointment. The writing was flowing like the summer wind - warm and addicting. I couldn't stop reading for hours and I loved it so much that I started the next book in the series right away (there are five books in it).
And for the last point of this presentation we are going to state out the FASCINATING idea of an ancient brotherhood, attacking, with a newly-made scientific bomb-like thing, the Cacholic Church and its priests in the Vatican City State. How original is this? Tell me! I've known about the plot for a lot of years now, and i've watched the movie a time or two, but it's my first time reading the book and I didn't expect this... This writing! This idea! This... this... THIS MASTERPIECE !!!
The actions in "Angels and Demons" take action in a 24-hour period, in three and a half countries, with a look over thousands of years of history, and a lot of unique and different characters. It is worth the time that you will spend reading these 500-ish pages. But if you are still not really sure about it, then you can watch the movie first so you have the vague concept of the book in your head, before starting it.
My rating is ★★★★★/5 stars
